We are recruiting post-doctoral fellows to work on the NWA BCP project at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We seek personnel to work on the following project:
Improving our understanding of the physiology of key NWA phytoplankton and how they will respond to climate change. This project is focused on the characterization of the physiology, elemental composition, and export potential of NWA phytoplankton in response to multiple environmental variables. In addition, the position will include opportunities to analyze NWA field samples and work collaboratively with several other research groups associated with the project.
Detailed projects will be developed in collaboration with each successful applicant. Researchers will be given exposure to interdisciplinary research and the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of areas including: statistical analyses, bioinformatics, modelling, and laboratory work.
Ideally applicants will have an interest in, expertise or familiarity with one or more of the following: phytoplankton culture, oceanic research cruises, physiological, biochemical and molecular assays on phytoplankton or other microbes, or bioinformatics techniques especially transcriptomics on non-model organisms.
Students and post-doctoral fellows will be located at Dalhousie University in the Oceanography department to work with Dr. Zoe Finkel and Dr. Andrew Irwin. There will be opportunities to interact with collaborating groups at Dalhousie and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Applicants should have a PhD in oceanography, biochemistry, microbiology, marine biology, or a related discipline. Our projects are interdisciplinary and provide opportunities to develop new skills and application areas. Prospective lab members should have experience in one of: phytoplankton culturing, microbiology, or biochemistry. All applicants should be motivated by problems in biological oceanography and biogeochemistry.
